About Philip Landick and Star Homes |
As a family business, Star Homes is built on first-hand experience of what creates an exceptional family home. For 40 years, Philip Landick has been involved in the construction industry, starting as an electrical contractor. Due to popular demand, he expanded his skills to become a general contractor, after successive homes he built for his family were snapped up by eager buyers who recognized the quality of his work and made irresistible offers. Successive Landick family homes built by Philip sold 16 times – before the family finally balked at the cycle of build-move-build and Philip applied his expertise to full-time home construction. (The home the family kept is shown below.) “We decided to keep one house for ourselves and begin building houses to sell,” Philip said. “Even though we no longer move into the homes, we still make each one unique with special touches and European flare.” The company includes Philip, his wife Britt-Inger Hornfeldt and their daughter, Sabrina Hornfeldt-Landick. Philip oversees the contracting, working with a network of sub-trades that he has maintained for the past 12 years. Britt-Inger handles office management, works with clients, and designs colour schemes for homes. Sabrina grew up helping her dad thread electrical wires through studs, installing lightboxes, and cleaning up construction sites. After graduating from high school in Nanaimo, she completed a design degree in London and worked in Austria and Hong Kong before returning to Nanaimo and rejoining the family company in 2008. She adds design and marketing expertise, combined with a lifelong appreciation of her father’s work. “He’s always stood so much behind what he does. I wanted to be a part of that commitment to building quality homes.” Her contribution brings cohesive design to the entire project. She considers the style of construction and the footprint of the home within the lot when deciding upon landscaping and exterior finishes. Inside the home, she selects floors, cabinets, countertops and paint colours. Her interiors are designed to complement the exteriors, so the entire home is presented as a complete, integrated package waiting to be opened and enjoyed.
